Not So Spooky Ways to Celebrate Halloween.

I have 4 children.

1 likes to scare others and be scared on a pranking level.

1 likes to scare others and not be scared.

1 isn't old enough to declare their fondness of the holiday.

1 doesn't like the holiday but likes candy and the opportunity to dress up.

If you have one like my not so little one who is not a fan of all things spooky. You are not alone and here are some ways to celebrate Halloween without the creepy crawlies.

Halloween Dance Party

Put on your favorite not so scary Halloween costume and some music like the Monster Mash, I Put a Spell on You, and The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack.

Not So Scary Decorations

Paper Pumpkins

You can have your children decorate paper pumpkins and hang them up. All you need is some paper and something to draw with. Cut the shape out or just hang them as is.

Paper Chains

You can make paper chains with strips of paper. Again with blank paper or orange, black and purple.

Paper Bats

Just like the pumpkins but with bats. Let them decorate.

Egg Carton Bats

If you like to reduce and reuse. You need scissors or craft knife, acrylics black paint, a clean egg carton, string if you want to hang them up, googly eyes or some scrap paper and something to write with to make paper eyes.

With supervision and or trusted adult. Carefully cut an egg cartoon to make the base of the bat. Paint the egg carton black.

Let dry, put your choice of eyes on and then use string to hang them up.

Halloween Movie Marathon

Pop some pop corn remember to turn off your porch light if you don't want people bothering you for candy. And choose a movie.

Depending on your child's preferences...these are a favorite at our house.

Disney Channel Original: Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire Made in 2000 rated TV- PG run time 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Disney Channel Original: Halloween town Made in 1998, rated TV- PG run time 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Nightmare Before Christmas Made in 1993, rated PG run time 1 hour and 16 minutes.

Honorable mentions are movies that are the movies listed after I asked them what their favorite Halloween movies were.

Hocus Pocus Made in 1993, rated PG run time 1 hour and 36 minutes. (My oldest listed this after a Christmas movie called Noel).

Disney Hall of Villains Halloween Special Made in 2019, 30-minute television special. (It's a dance party of awesome-ness)

Ernest Scared Stupid Made in 1991, rated PG run time 1 hour and 31 minutes. (One of my favorites)

Muppets Haunted Mansion Made in 2021, rated TV-PG run time 52 minutes. ( I totally went crazy for this cuteness)

If we aren't going trick or treating...we do a "candy bar" I put out a few pieces of candy for each child and a few choices. Like four groups of four candies or snacks. One per child. I purchase cute paper plates and or napkins. We decorate with the paper pumpkins and bats and string them in the house.

They love it. I hope you and your family do too!
