The Inbox Experiment.

The email experiment was a two weeklong investigation of my inbox. During August 2025. I am proud to announce that I have a more manageable inbox. This blog post was intended to be published in September of 2025. Now, I am using it for starting out the year content material. You can find out more in this blog article: coming soon.

Why?

I am still trying to get my personal email under control. I was also curious am I really getting sold to as much as I feel like I am? It started off as Monday through Friday but it nagged at me for not having a full week. Then, how was I supposed to know if it was accurate if I didn’t have another week to compare it to.

Results Week 1

700 emails in total. 540 were from stores and sales from the stores, from the one-time freebie offers, sign up for the discounts...you probably know. 160 were non-selling updates in the communities that I am in.

Results Week 2

I received 1462 emails from the week. That is more than 200 emails A DAY! More than half of those emails had offered me something in a “special sale” or “limited" time offer.

What Did I Do?

It confirmed my suspicions. I am in fact getting A LOT of offers and sale alerts. I also took advantage of unsubscribing to location specific stores (moved states), people I no longer follow, and information I no longer find relevant (signed up for a location specific event and it didn’t turn out as expected). We don’t need a reason to unsubscribe. Just do it.
